Our Story
"We build things, we don't just advocate."
Big Rock Foundation is a pioneering nonprofit that donates large boulders to municipalities for permanent street safety infrastructure.
We observed a critical gap: Small municipalities know exactly which intersections are dangerous—residents complain, crashes keep happening—but they can't afford the $50,000 for raised crosswalks or the 18-month wait for federal grants.
So we decided to make it simple. We source large boulders (36+ inches, 2,000+ pounds) and install them as curb extensions, chicanes, and protective barriers.
Design Priorities
- Urgent, not alarmist: People are dying on dangerous streets—let's fix them now.
- Accessible, not bureaucratic: Simple application, fast approval, no red tape.
- Proven, not experimental: We use engineering standards and evidence-based design.
- Community-focused: Municipalities and residents know where the problems are.
